Mongolia bike hire conditions
 

Hi, I'd like to take my son on a months tour of mongolia by flying out to Ullanbator and hiring some little chinese 150s.

He should have his full bike licence by then but is most likely to be just 17.

From what I undertand, you must be 18 to get an international driving permit which is required as part of the hire conditions.

If anyone has hired bikes before, do you think the need for an IDP is a hard and fast rule?

If we might be able to get around this, If stopped by the police, is the IDP important or is your own driving licence of more use?

In some very early stages of planning, but this is possibly a big sticking point so any help would be gratefully recieved.

Can't answer your question but for a whole month, it might be cheaper to buy and sell.

Yeah, it was an option, however the rates are 10 Euros for a day when hiring, so it makes sense to just pick it up and drop it back with the hire company rather than spending time trying to buy, register and then sell.
