Leaving China with China registered Vehicle

Hello to all fellow travellers,

I am currently planning an overland motorcycle trip from Chongqing, where I currently work, back home to Germany, starting early August
The motorcycle is not registered in my name as this is not possible here. But I have a work visa as well as a chinese driving licence.

Does anybody know which documents I need to leave China with my bike?
I know it was done several times in the past, unfortunally none of the guys did respond to my questions so far.
So I hope someone here can give me some hints.

We spoke earlier, IIRC, as I had a similar plan, but aborted it. Apparently you will need an ATA, whatever that is, for which you will have to put down a deposit of 50,000 yuan, regardless of bike size or value. You (might, but probably unlikely) get it back when you return the bike to China. For this reason I decided it is just not worth it, I can rather buy another bike elsewhere. In the meantime I have switche to plan B, which will be a long ride to the west of China and back in April/May 2020.

Been doing plenty of rides in Zhejiang and Anhui provinces, happy to answer any questions

Finally I was able to exit China on my bike. In Khorgos it was absolutely impossible. Cost me 4 days there to discuss several options, which all failed at the end. Then I went up north to the small border Alanshankou. And there it was surprisingly easy to cross into Kazachstan.

very well done larumo  thank you for telling us here on the HUBB. I did not even know that the border crossing at Alanshankou was open to international travelers.

Great stuff! What documents did you need? Did you have to pay a deposit, or any other fees? Any other border formalities needed?

Looking forward to read about your journey. Have a safe one.

Hi Larumo, any update available on what was required of you on the Chinese border? Based on your experience, I am dusting off my idea to travel to Europe next year.
