Leaving a bike in Kazakhstan

Hi Folks,
First of all, an apology for not searching through the forums but I've got a friend in a bit of trouble and was hoping someone could give me a couple of quick answers.
We are in Atyrau, a friend has had an accident and has broken his thumb and damaged a kidney. He needs to get back to the UK for medical treatment.
Can he just get on a plane leaving the bike here?
If so, what complications will this cause?

Thanks in advance,
Dunc.

Hi, sorry to hear about your friend's accident.

To answer your question, immigration and customs are two different things, normally you are given a Temporary import permit for a number of months, ( six, I think) . As long as this hasn't expired then he's free to leave the country without the bike.

Well i do this often as i work a little and travel a little

I have done this in Ukraine, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan & Tajikistan

I would suggest just not saying anything when boarding the plane, all they have is a stamp in passport saying you crossed in by motor vehicle so don't show customs paper.

However for long term storage you need to get it out from Kazak as you might have problems in long run

Kazakhstan , Russia, Belarus and as from January 2015 Kyrgyzstan are all custom union country's which will limit days of temporary imports in.

For long term storage head to Tibilis in Georgia which can be done in 2 days from Atyrau and they dont care how long you leave the bike there for

Thanks for the responses. Phil is heading for the airport, I'll let you know what happens next time I have internet.

Left my bike there last year, didnt have any problem getting on the plane. Now, I just need to come up with a brilliant plan how to get the bike out of the country without paying that import duty,.

We store bikes in Kyrgyzstan and till Jan 2015 there are no restrictions. After that we will work something out with the customs.....
