Kyrgyzstan visa in the Kazajstan border

Hello all from Madrid,

I'm planning a rtw trip. Part of the trip is through the Stans (Russia -> Kazajstan --> Kyrgyzstan --> China --> Pakistan) . I have to cross Kyrgyzstan and the closest embassy I have is London. I already have several visas in my passport and I'm supposed to send it to London to get the Kyrgyz one. Since it can be lost in the process and the political situation is a bit complicated in Kyrgyzstan, I was wondering if it's easy to obtain that visa in the Kazajstan border or perhaps in the Kyrgyz embassy in Astana.

Thanks in advance.

Kyrgyzstan is currently having a little trouble, rebels have just kicked out the government and security forces have shot and killed alot of people in the capital. So not sure how this will change your visa situation.

Are you driving from Madrid to Russia? I'd have guessed that there are quite a few places on the way where you could pick up a visa, Vienna or Bern e.g.

Edit: come to think of it .. what do you mean by border? Almaty is pretty close to the border ...

Yeah, I think I'll do that, I have Kyrgyz embassies in Berlin, Brussels, Kiev, Wien, Astana... I'll try in those.

Besides ... I forgot the exact rules, but I think the Kyrgyz visa was one of those that cannot be issued ages in advance. Unfortunately I can't recall if 3 months or 1 month before entry is the max. Might be worth checking out.

Kyrgyz visa should be easy to get in Almaty.

BTW you can enter the districts of Talas, Chuy (i.e. Bishkek) and Issyk-Kul in Kyrgyzstan with a Kazakh visa, but that doesn't include the passes to China. Not sure if you can get a Kyrgyz visa once in Bishkek using this system though...

Kyrgyzstan consulate in Almaty

Hi saliadarunavuelta
you are better getting your Visa for Kyrgyzstan in Kazakhstan Almaty. its easy and quick to get
Consulate GPS ref is : N43 14.371 E76 57.673
get there early to queue - and then its a free for all barge at the end of the day!!
If you do go to Almaty we recommend that you do not stay at the Third Dorm unless you want to catch some horrid disease! The commmunal bathrooms had piles of s##t in the showers......as the toilets were overflowing and could not be used. The bed was disgusting - we have stayed in awful places during our time on the road but this was BAD!

if you want to have a read of our time in the Stans have a look at the diary on our site 2ridetheworld.com : diary and then just select the continent and country you wish to read about. we also have a down-loadable GPS ref file at the bottom of our main index page.

good luck.
