Kurchatov and the Polygon

Anyone been recently? Now considered relatively safe from radiation apart from a few hot spots that are off limits to tourists. Kurchatov no longer a closed town but do you need a permit to visit?

All in all, is it worth it and are there any do's and don't's (apart from the obvious)? Thanks :)

Yes been there ... its not like there is a giant fence around it or guards. Its a massive area. There is one area that is more strictly policed and that is the Degelen Mountain area.

PM me for more details

I see two of you had punctures. Interestingly when I and some friends hired bikes in Almaty for a weekend trip out to Kolsai lakes, two of us also had punctures. Is there something about Kazakh dirt?
