Happy days, Kazakhstan is dropping visa requirements for vistitors from some countries as of July 15th. Link here.

Probably more alarming is this:

Foreign visitors holding passports from those countries who want to stay longer will be obliged to apply for business or investors' visas.

So if you want to stay over 15 days you cannot simply get a standard tourist visa? hmmm...

Be interested to know how this pans out

i wouldnt worry about that too much. Kazakhstan is largely a transit country anyway. You wouldnt want to spend more than 15 days in it without getting out. :)

I agree also, we did 2 transits of 3 and then 5 days :thumbup1: but some people may still want the 1 month visa, especially cyclists.

Well i have to agree. Every time i visit Kazakstan i start to like it more and more. Country is big and it has a whole lot more to offer and see than what than most people see.

Strongly disagree! Kazakhstan has loads of stuff to see, and the distances mean that 15 days will not allow one to see much at all.

Of course, if you stick to the cities and main roads it's pretty boring, it's a country which needs some time and effort to get the most out of.

Would be very disappointing if tourists were now effectively limited to 15 days.

We liked KZ, most for the people than the touristics sites..
LP's Kazakhstan section is for fire-starting only :D

Bradt has a proper guide for Kazakhstan that I highly recommend.

I've been south down through Kaz to Kyrgyzstan and will be heading back north to Russia. It's a nice country with great people. Only one drawback, the constant speed traps where the police just want your money. I serviced my bike in their workshop, having bought the oil from them - no other charge. Fantastic. A few days later my rear wheel bearings failed. They supplied and fitted them for a total of £27.
