Invitation Letter for Visa
 

I am a Canadian looking at my options for obtaining a visa for Russia. it seems that getting a business visa is out of the question so my next option would be going for a private visa, which would allow 90 days travel and 2 entrances. I do have a friend that has a sister in Russia, and was contemplating asking him to ask his sister to send in the letter of invitation. Not really knowing what is involved for his sister to send in the letter, would this be something that most Russians would know about or would this be an unusual and stressful request?

Why is business visa out of the question? People have been using business visas for non-business travel for years with no problem.
