Insurance

Hi all,

I promised I've searched the HUBB and Google too for an answer but nothing that is recent or that I'd trust.

I need an idea of how much car insurance will be for a car (everything I found on here was for a motorcycle) for the following countries
  • Iran
  • Turkmenistan
  • Uzbekistan
  • Tajikistan
  • Kyrgyzstan
  • Kazakhstan
  • Russia
  • Mongolia

If it makes a difference the vehicle will be a three year old Toyota Landcruiser. Are they all available at the border, and any tips or advice regarding insurance. Will only be in each country for a week or so, it's a quick tour to Mongolia and back, starting in UAE.

I appreciate any input.

EDIT - I found this website Driving | Caravanistan which does seem to have information.
Is this still current and correct?

Quote:

At the border you will be paying a sizeable amount of money: fuel compensation, road tax, obligated insurance, immigration card and entry tax. The amount changes depending on your vehicle: 150$ for a 4WD Toyota, 255$ for a Land Rover, up to several hundred dollars for a minivan.

Hi,
In August 2014 I got a short term insurance for my Ford Transit at the Mongolian border (Kyakhta - Altanbulag) for 30 euros.

Regarding Kazakhstan, I went there in 2012 and paid 50 USD in Kotyayevka (coming from Astrakhan, Russia).

In Uzbekistan in 2012 I couldn't find any insurance office coming from Kaz. and I was told that 3rd party insurance was not mandatory... (not sure if rules have changed).

Thanks for the info, much appreciated.
It doesn't sound too bad then, I presume the insurance isn't worth the paper it's printed on though in the case of theft for example but at least it will be legal.

Puts my mind at ease knowing that it isn't extortionate, I did ready reports of people saying they had to take an annual policy and try and claim the difference back when they exited the country.
