India or Pakistan to Central Asia Group 2014. Where is everybody?
 

Hello,

I've been reading old threads about Central Asia, and getting though China. Usually it seems to be the case that a group forms in order to split the costs of doing the nearly prohibitively expensive China section.

My question is this: Where are all the Pak--->China-->Central Asia riders this year? Please don't tell me they all got jobs or something tragic like that :D

Everyone I've talked to who is going the same way seems to be making other plans: Air shipping to Central Asia; a cargo ship to Dubai; or else are more heavily weighted to the wonders of Iran - which I can ride though on my passport :-(

Been looking at this with a few fellow riders but recently there has been a lack of appetite given recent events in Pakistan..

Need decisions soo though !

Really though!!! The last events happened in Pak are discouraging...

What about crossing from Nepal to Kyrgystan? I know that would take much more time in China than doing it from Pakistan so more expensive but probably safer and considering the costs related on shipping the bikes from India to Kyrgystan, Dubai or wherever it might be considered.

We are two on two bullets entering Nepal from West Bengal around April 15th and looking for a way to avoid Pakistan either by shipping the bikes to Iran/Kyrgystan either crossing China towards Kyrg.

We will be glad to join a group to go into China and make this happen!!!

Have recently run into unexpected problems with the Indian gov't and my Carnet. I need to be out of India and into Nepal ASAP! Soooo, I've been considering the nepal--->kyg route.

I'm messaging my contact in Kashgar today to try and get price quotes. Its ~2700km in China, and due to the cost I'd want to haul, which likely means no Lhasa by bike. But if we're splitting it 3 ways, who knows what is possible?

Andrew and I have been looking into the Pakistan situation a bit more and are unsure about it security-wise. We're definitely keen to consider the Nepal - China - Kyrgyzstan option. Equally keen to hear a price estimate before we commmit too much though! We're open to speeding through or some meanderings (price dependent)... We're on two bikes.

Keen not to leave Nepal before about the 30th April, can stay longer there though.

theoverman83, we aren't yet discounting the Pakistan option, just still weighing up how we feel and what the other options/costs are to get to Kyrgyzstan.

Let us know what quote you get from your contact in Kashgar. I'm happy to try to get other quotes as well.
