Entering Russia with a car registered to someone else.

Hi

Entering Russia next month hopefully with a 4x4, planning a long winter trip. AT present the car is registered in my Father's name for various reasons.

What extra documentation do I need to enter Russia with a car not registered in my name? Is it possible at all?

Thanks

Hey, we crossed into Russia from Ukraine three years ago on company registered bikes. It is certainly possible, just make sure you have an official document (preferably with an impressive stamp on it) written and signed by a lawyer or notary stating that the owner allows you to drive that particular vehicle. Take the original, not a scan or photocopy. Normally, English should be fine.

Having said that, we made the mistake once of not having such a document and had to spend a night at the border (in fact, we did have a document but it was in Dutch). However, after a lot of discussion a superior let us through eventually. Since then, we always travel with an English notary letter and haven't had any problems (yet).

Good luck!

I have not had an issue in 2 border crossings into Russia, riding my friend's motorcycle with a simple form (not notarized) in German giving me permission to ride the motorcycle.
