Entering Russia with 6 points on license?

Hi,

I've searched the forum but can't find an answer to the question of points on a license and how border guards view them. I have 6 on my UK license and would like to drive to Russia in the Spring. Does anybody know if the points would cause me any problems?

Cheers

They never even asked for a licence when I went through in July, as long as the vehicle is registered and you have a passport you should have no problems

Thanks for the reply TS,that's great news.

Nobody cares about your points except your own country.
You'll be driving through the EU also... we don't have the point system in Belgium for example and nobody cares about this.
You need a VALID driver's license and an international one for Russia, even if you would only have one point left, it's still valid no...?
No one in another country is going to 'take points' of a foreign drivers license!
;-)

That's not every time the case, so beware... we had to show both our national and international driver's permit to go from Latvia to RUS for example.

Either way - its not like they can 'dial home' to check it. Where I was asked to show my licence and I wasn't too sure about the honestly of the cops I would hand over another document that looked like a licence but wasn't. No questions.

Your points are only shown on the paper counterpart - not on the licence, and that's not what you show anyway. Only ever answer the questions you are asked or show the docs you are asked for never anything more. That is just inviting trouble.

I read on someone's ride report that they made some "duplicate licenses" with a camera, printer, and plastic. Have 5-6 of them to be used as "sacrificial objects" if needed in some cases. Most of the time a DL is torn-up or shabby, so even a reasonable copy will work.

Use a piece of plastic, a Nikon Coolpix L22, and a Polaroid PoGo printer. Do both sides if there is a Motorcycle endorsement on the back. Piece of cake.

YMMV

Just copy you existing licence and laminate. That is what I plan for Mexico.
