Considering selling 2 BMW GS's in Vlad

My wife and I are riding 2 BMW to Vladivostok from London, should be there in early September. I'm starting to think about what I should do with them once we arrive. We were going to take them across to Japan and ride them down to Osoka and freight them from their, so we have the carnet's etc.

However am now wondering if it is possible to sell them. Does anyone know if this is possible. Would customs allow us to do this?

Both are going at the moment . R80 GS 1990 and R100 GS 1991.

If you search the North Asia forum a bit for posts by 'Shustrik'. 'Shustrik' lives in Vladivostock and is 'well connected' there. His command of written english (according to his posts) is good.
I imagine he will be able to tell you the practicalities of trying to sell a foreign bike in Vladivostock.
I suspect you will have to 'import' it, register under your name (ie get russian plates) and then sell it for cash (USD or RBL). I suspect only with help from local HU community ie 'Shustrik' will you be able to achieve all this within a limited timescale. He will also be able to identify 'shortcuts' through the bureaucracy - 'customs' (import) and 'GIBDD' (registration).
Try to PM him and see if he can help.
Otherwise, I would not recommend trying all this on your own.
Local help will be vital.

PS There may well be the option of having your bikes 'stolen' and 'notifying the police'. This may well satisfy the customs on the way out.

Hi Ken and toni

Hi Guys

we spoke before u left London and I left london. Am now in UB, Mongolia planning the route out through west Mongolia and back into Russia and home - I went the other way finally, through Canada, U.S., Alaska (including hanging around Alaska waiting for Magadan airlines to solve their financial problems, which they didn't so Magadan route was out... into Seoul and Ferry to Sarubino and on to Mongolia !)

Talk to Sasha too with the iron Tigers. Excellent english and very very helpful - say hi from Kevin !

Selling UAZ Jeep In Vladivostok

I have a similar question related to selling a UAZ Jeep in Vladivostok. Does anybody know how this is done, or can help me do it once in Vladivostok?

The jeep is registered in Mongolia with Mongolian papers (in my name) and plates. I'd be importing the car on a temporary basis at the border and then seeking to sell it in Vladivostok.

Is there anybody local that can help me do this on the Vladivostok end? I am under the impression that I need to have proper documentation that the car has been "stolen" "irrevocably damaged" or sold and customs/import taxes paid before immigration will let me leave the country on a flight. Is that correct?

Thanks very much in advance!

Daniel

Kevin,
Maybe you could help out with some information for some guys who can't seem to get their bikes released from customs in Korea.
From the Trip Paperwork forum:

This post was more than a week ago, and they may have solved the problem already.
But it might be nice to get some first hand information about the procedures.

Thanks
