Carnet for The Stan's?

Hi there, sorry if this is covered somewhere. I haven't found it. I gave seen that no carnets are required for Russia and Mongolia but I need one for Japan. I am wondering if I need to get one for any or all of the Stan's?

Only Pakistan. The six others do not recognize the carnet at all.

A question on the back of that

I have a carnet issued as I'll need it through India & Pakistan, however, do I still have to stamp in and stamp out of the other countries like Russia, Mongolia & Stans or just go by their individual processes?

As I said above, Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan do not recognise the carnet at all. Which means they will not stamp it. Same for Russia.

I seem to remember reading someone getting their carnet stamped into Mongolia, but I may be wrong, and for sure it is not required, so I would not ask them to stamp it.

I know someone who shipped the bike to Mongolia ( from germany to UB with a container ) and in this case he needed a carnet.
But just because he did not travel with the bike and had to clear it later with customs......

Thats a different issue ... thats a freight ATA Carnet ... not a Carnet de Passage for travelling with your own vehicle.

ATA Carnets for freight or expensive ($100,000 plus) camera gear etc are common for travelling to Russia or the Stans... but the Carnets everyone is talking about here are the Carnet de Passages, and they are not recognised at all by Russia or the Stans so are of zero help or use crossing borders there.
