Buying used auto in Irkutsk
 

Hello,

My friend and I just sold our bikes in Ulanbaatar (didnt want to deal with shipping, easier customs paperwork) but we still want to travel forward in Siberia. Does anyone have a contact or experience with buying a used car in Russia? We would want to buy in Irkutsk and sell/give away in magadan or Vladivostok.

If you are not resident in Russia you'll need to find someone who is, and is willing to have the vehicle registered in their name.

As far as I know it is not possible to register a car in Russia unless you are resident there.

Some people asked this question before and id did not work out.

And the thing with selling I dont understand, you sell it because the paperwork is easier, and want now much more stress after that and almost impossible paperwork?

I guess I was hoping to leave the car registered in the previous owners name taking just a contract signed at a notary giving me permission to transfer ownership. Then it would be a transfer between two Russians. But I suppose there is risk for the previous owner I didn't consider
