Buying a vehicle in Kyrgyzstan or Tajikistan?
 

Does anyone know if it is possible to buy a vehicle (car,suv or motorcycle) in Kyrgyzstan or Tajikistan as a foreigner? I will be arriving in Bishkek in the next few weeks and will be looking to get some sort of vehicle to head west with. Any info would be appreciated!

Yes here is my views on doing this

Kazakhstan-Almaty
Better selection/choice but might be a little more pricey than Kyrgyzstan. Some deals to be had still due to currency collapse.

Kyrgyzstan-Bishkek
Less choice than Kazakhstan but a good network of locals (bikers who know car dealers ect ect) who can assist

Kyrgyzstan-Osh
A motorbike rental/tour company based there sometimes puts adds on here selling bikes so maybe try get on contact with them.

For both Kazakhstan & Kyrgyzstan you will require a local to buy the car/bike with you and assist in getting correct paperwork to be allowed to cross the border. If land with a good handful of US Dollars you will get what you want with the help of locals

Tajikistan-Dushanbe
Last choice to buy a bike/car, really buying a bike would be very limited if at all possible. I think choice is better in Kazakhstan & Kyrgyzstan for buying a car

If you buy a bike stay away from the Chinese crap

It is possible but if you want the appropriate registration then it is difficult and you will need help from a local or good Russian skills. The best selections would be in Almaty or Bishkek. Depending on your timing, I'm planning on selling my 2007 Kawasaki KLR650 with all Kazakh registration soon. It is in Almaty now but I'll be traveling with it in Kyrgyzstan in about two weeks.
