Border Tajikistan-Kyrgyzstan

Hi, I'm planning a trip in central Asia and looking for info about border Tajikistan-Kyrgyzstan: is possible take visa for Kyrgyzstan and fuel on M41 road or at border? And info roe transit visa of Turkmenistan, is possible to take it in Turkey or Armenia or Iran? Thanks a lot!!!!!

AntonioVdE 26 Nov 2014 08:57

Where are you from? Normally (but not always) you don't need a visa for Kyrgyzstan.
Fuel: m41 Sary-Tash in Kyrg. 25km after border.
Turkmenistan: apply in home country, pick up on the road is the safest way i'd say.. i pi ked it up in Tehran, pretty easy (not like Armenia where the embassy is like hell)

For up-to-date information on borders, visas, road conditions, check this great website:

Caravanistan | The Silk Road Travel Guide

There is even a forum where there is very up to date info.

Tiger3 29 Nov 2014 11:29

Hello , we start from france at 10 of may .
Yes if it s possible i hope that we can meet on the road. .
I would like to take a visa for Turkmenistan in turkey or iran also . Normaly we can have a letter from consulate turkmène in french . Other french biker cross this border only witn a invitation letter and they made visa at border with 150 euros :-(

eurasiaoverland 29 Nov 2014 12:35

You do not need an invitation letter fora transit visa. Only for a tourist visa.

Some embassies will apply for the visa for you and send you a visa authorisation. You don't need to send them your passport (just copies) and you don;t have to pay anything. You print this off and get your visa at the border.

I did this in June 2014 - arrived at the remote border crossing between Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan with this authorisation which I was sent by the London Embassy, and paid US$35 for the visa.

Ciao Scalpo,
I'm from Milan too:-)

As for the info you asked for:
-Kyrgyzstan visa: you don't need it
-Fuel on M41 is not a problem: you only need to ask in villages
-Turkmenistan visa: many different options, but not that easy, it depends how much time you do have.

Wich bike are you using for this trip?
Where do you live in Milan?

Hi Antonio, do you remember how many time toke you to have visa in Teheran?

AntonioVdE 6 Mar 2015 12:20

Hey Scalpo
I only picked up my Turkmen visa which takes still a few hours (they make you fill out the application form again).
I applied for the visa in my home country (Belgium) 4 weeks prior to picking it up... luckily i did that because I was the only one who was permitted exit via Konye-Urgench (so I could visit the crater)...

scalpo 6 Mar 2015 13:19

So, I can't ask for the visa directly to Iran or turkey?!!!!!!

AntonioVdE 6 Mar 2015 13:53

I believe you can (pretty sure), but give it also at least 3 weeks and if it's still like last year, you might not get the borders you asked for. But look these things up, I'm unsure why i did get and others didn't get Konye-Urgench...

scalpo 9 Mar 2015 15:18

I'm really angry!!!! Thanks to my travel agency I risk of not having transit for Turkmenistan!!!!!! :censored: :censored: :censored:

I used them a few times and never had a problem.
I told you obtaining Turkmenistan transit visa can be a problem sometimes...

Did they offered you a tourist visa as a plan B?

Other option can be contact Stantours: they are a well known agency which operates in the area and maybe they can give you good advice about how to obtain transit visa and where...

scalpo 10 Mar 2015 18:14

Not yet!!! I'll try with stantours....thanks!!! The problem is that i'm starting :(
I'm waiting an answer from an UK travel agency!!
Hope in luck :)

AntonioVdE 10 Mar 2015 18:22

Don't where you start, but I'm pretty sure if you have 3 weeks or more from now untill turkmenistan, that you can make it... applying on the road will work, worst case you don't get the borders you asked...
Worst Turkmen embassy I heard from is Azerbadjan (and Belgium isn't much better) but you'll find someone in an embassy who can help you..
If you pass by Belgium (Antwerp) more than welcome to spend some time here..

scalpo 10 Mar 2015 18:45

Thanks Antoni, but I start from Italy! When I'll come back you will be welcome here ;)
Intelservizi told me:" ther is no time!!! But we have some customers get transit visa in Ankara in 4-5 days....don't worry!!"
:eek2:
I just can hope so!!!!!

scalpo 9 May 2015 15:46

Hi guys, now I'm in Uzbek. For Turkmenistan visa asked in Ankara Embassy and after 10 days arrived email with letter to print for transit visa. Payed 10 dollars in Turkey. At the border 55 dollars for visa and 80 dollars for all the tax (road, fuel and something else). Hope to be help!!!

XTAdventure 11 Jun 2015 12:57

Is there even a possibility to get into Turkmenistan with a visa for more than just tranist when you ride with your bike? I heard you need a guide to get a visa but how would that work if I travel with the bike?

For how many days are the transit visas?

Cheers
Xenia :scooter:

repete 14 Jun 2015 08:03

G'day xt etc, I haven't read through the whole thread so forgive me if this is out of context of whatever,, but anyhow...
I applied for my Turkmenistan transit visa in Dushanbe, a couple of weeks ago. It wasn't ready when I was told to collect it (a week later), which pissed me off no end coz I was on my way to Uzbekistan. they said they'd send an email so I could get the visa at the border. Much to my surprise the email arrived 5 days later. So I'm expecting nothing but the usual border hassles when I cross in a couple of days.
Transit visa is 5days. Apparently any other type is major hassle. Don't need guide.
Personally I think 5 days is more than enough time to spend in Turkmenistan...

XTAdventure 15 Jun 2015 10:45

Thanks for the answer! Well I think 5 days would be enough to see the main things (gate to hell and so on) and to cross the country.
Safe trip Repete!
