Border Kirgyz-Kazak

Hi, do you know if there are border open for foreigners close to Issikul to enter Kazakstan? Thanks so much!!!!

There is the Karkara border crossing, north of the eastern side of Issik Kul.
This border crossing is reported to be open only during the summer.
It was open to foreigners for sure last 2 augusts.

Caravanistan reports in 2014 it opened may 19th, no info about this year yet, but it can be open.

Hey,

the question has been answered, so I will just use this thread to throw in my question about border crossings in central asia :P

1.) I read reports about border crossings and try to extract as much information as possible about what documents, stamps, etc you have to get where. But I wonder how difficult it will be, if I miss information. Are the crossings more or less intuitive in a sence that you are guided through the process or is it essential to know which documents to get where, etc. in order to get through without trouble?

2.) Concerning motorcycle paperwork: There is a document which you always have with you and there is the second official ownership document, which usually stays home. Am I right, that I also leave that other one home (for security reasons) when I am on the road? Or is it required to show somewhere for whatever reasons? If yes, will copies do?

:)

Border crossings are boring and time wasting, but not that much difficult.

As long as you have passport with correct visa (where visa is needed) and "bike passport", you'll be ok.
Someone will help you in filling the forms. Usually there are forms in english or at least instructions on how to compile them, hanging somewhere on the wall.
Normally you first get your passport stamped and then pass trough the customs.

In Italy we do have 2 kind of bike documents too: one for property and one for circulation. I always crossed with the one for the circulation only, leaving the other at home.
If your document is in your language, you will be asked to indicate a few details: bike plate number, VIN number, document number, marka (Honda, for example), model, year...nothing difficult
