Azerbaijan Entry Rules
 

Hi

What exactly are the rules for entering Azerbaijan with a 4x4 (not a bike)? As far as I know, to avoid paying a large cash deposit at the border, on can only keep a vehicle in the country for three days.

I've heard that cars are exepmt from the three day rule, but met people who say otherwise - which is true??

I've also heard that transit vias holders are not affected - is this true? If I turn up with a 7-day transit visa, will they allow the car in for 7 days?

I'm on a UK passport in case it makes a difference.

I'm curious myself, my most upto date info is from late 2008 from a couple of bikers in that you can enter they give you 3 days temp import document the border people will tell you that you can pay on exit if you stay longer.

The guys were going to Turkmenistan and overstayed by a week in azeri (on the import document not visas) , at customs they were taken into a small room and grilled on the law and told that it was smuggling and were told to pay a fine, it worked out at $40 per motorbike.

This is all I know though I'll find out when I get there in a month.
