Keep a stash, card and cash!

Always use ATM's inside a bank!

Always pay cash!

Back in the old days of riding in Russia, (1990s) I used to carry at least $1000 in cash. Recently I carry about $150 at most and wonder why I am carrying it.

For the countries you are going to you wont have a problem finding ATMs in a town. Uzbekistan is the main exception in the region where cash is king, but you are not going there. Take multiple cards. Keep them in different wallets. A spare wallet with different cards stored in a different place is good backup for losing your plastic. ATMs are everywhere. I like to carry enough local cash to last me 3-4 days at least or until I exit the country :thumbup1:

Just re-reading answers to an earlier post, and recognize you, Mr PanEuropean! I was riding an ST1100 too at the time ('03?), remember discussing shipping in southern Algeria, Tam to Djanet. Actually, tried to do that exact route on a GSA in 2010 but it was shut, probably is still. I think you had a special ali crate at the time? Not still on the Pan?
