Anchorage to Magadan - any updates?

I've looked through the forums quite extensively for information on how to get from Anchorage to Magadan (me and a bike), but most of the information i come across is rather old...Therefore, does anyone have any more current information on making this crossing? Any alternative crossings I should Consider?

If there is already a similar conversation, please send a link :-).

Thanks!

Well, for sure you won't be able to do it by road.

Between 2010 and 2013, I made about half a dozen aircraft delivery flights along a route Anchorage - Nome - Anadyr - Magadan. The road in Alaska ends just beyond Nome, and there are no highways of any kind on the Russian side until about 150 km north of Magadan.

There is not much trade (if any) between Magadan and North America, my guess is that you will probably have to investigate shipping the bike to Vladivostok or perhaps Petropavlovsk, then to Magadan from one of those cities.

There is a lot of air freight activity between Anchorage and Asia - in fact, I think that Anchorage may well be one of the biggest air freight hubs in North America. So air freight might be worth investigating. Perhaps air freight from Anchorage to Seoul (there is lots of air freight service between Anchorage and Korea), then you might be able to catch a ferry from South Korea up to Vlad, then air freight or (maybe) ferry from Vlad to Magadan.

This blog might interest you. He created a special boat kind of floating bag that could be mounted on a motorcycle. He documented his experience from Europe up to Provideniya. But he could not cross it as the climate has changed. But he has given some useful tips.

Read his full blog. There are several formalities involved from the Russian side. I think there is a post by him in Adv rider forum too. Do document your progress as I am planning it around 2018. :)

Hi
If you find out anything about bike freight from Vladivostok to Magadan, please share here.
I'm looking at shipping my bike to be in Vladivostok mid to late June and then catch a coastal freighter north.

Kim
