Vancouver - Alaska: how early can you go?

I started my trip in January in Dallas. When I got to L.A. I was intending to take a left to Mexico but I guess I made a mistake http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/wink.gif and I'm now in Seattle headed for Alaska.

I'm keen (obviously) on going to the HU rally at the end of May but the prospect of being able to earn some spondoolucks in Alaska is drawing me too - money is forever outgoing. Not sure what I'll end up doing.

The dilemma is that there have been a couple of days when I've been snowed in even here in Washington. One day I saw 6 cars crashed off the road in the space of half an hour and I had to turn back from a low mountain pass.

So, the question is, does anyone know what the earliest is that you can feasibly leave Vancouver for Alaska?

Hello Grant,
This year I think your going to have to wait until the end of April. As you have seen we are experiencing an unusually late winter, with snow in Seattle and Vancouver. The Alaska and Yukon forcast is Highs of zero degrees celcius and lows of minus twenty, with snow every day for the next week. South central B.C. ( where I live) should be ridable next week but... watch out for the black ice in the morning and evening and the left over gravel from winter sanding which makes the roads dusty and corners marbley.

If you are going to be in the Revelstoke area before May 1 give us a call and we could get together.

Good Luck, plug in your vest, and head north...
Cameron

Hey Grant,
I live in Anchorage and, it's still pretty cold. The snow is melting and people are riding here now. To answer when, I'd say more like the 10th of May leave. If you ride up I beleive it's 37 it's got some good elevations on that route and a great deal of gravel. If you really want to come sooner ride Calgary and ride up that way, that way you could go next week and start. Plan on it being rather cold thou..best of luck.
