UK to Halifax NS bike shipping

Hello folks, just want to plant an acorn here for any Brits looking at Canada next year as a travel option. I'm in contact with an agent in Hamburg who quoted the following in an email :

" This year we had a chance to combine the requests of several travelers and send the motorbikes in a Exclusiv-Container for motorbikes in April, May. Maybe this is an option for you as well?

Lets keep in touch, End of the year, begin of 2023 we might have some more requests and could plan a container again"

Basically it's a relatively reduced hassle way of getting your bike across the Atlantic and if the container is full then the cost per rider will be less I would've thought.

Stephan Knopf has long done exactly this. I don't know whether he runs a route to Canada (since I presume that's what you're discussing with your agent), but when I did this ten or fifteen years ago he was cheap, reliable, trouble-free, and predictable.

I admit to a very slight suspicion that your agent is actually shilling for a Knopf service, but that's probably not fair. https://www.knopftours.com/sea-freight-1

Hey Mark, tbh I wouldn't be surprised if what you say is true, shipping by sea is my second choice preference but with inflated airfreight costs since C19 it seams the most cost effective way, float it not fly it..!! Either way I'll just be happy to get my bike on Canadian turf and get them wheels rolling West...!!!

Hey Flipflop, I seriously hope this is true, if it is it will restore some lost faith in many bike travellers. Thanks for posting [emoji965][emoji95][emoji100][emoji289][emoji289][emoji289]

Very encouraging indeed...

I am also in contact with the agency (intime ham) which organizes this shipping. This spring the price was ca. 1800 euros (all-inclusive) from Hamburg to Halifax. For next spring the price depends on how full the container will be. The agency needs at least 5 bikes for this route to be economical.

We would like to ship our two bikes in April so we will start traveling in the beginning of May 2023.

I was also reaching out to Carrie from Motorcycle Express but have not recieved any replies yet. We like the idea of air freight by Air Transat a bit more than sea freight :)

Hi Michik,

I have received information from Carrie/MC Express which is very encouraging for 2023. If you send me your email address on a PM I will forward the same email to you. It looks like we will be travelling around the same time. Are you intending to do the TCAT or just your own travel plan...????

I'll send you a PM, thanks!
We want to go to the US east coast then to Alaska and proceed driving southbound to Central America and maybe further.
But the TCAT sounds awesome!

Cheers,
Michael

So, to wrap up this thread and a reference for any Brits looking to ship rather than fly-ride to Canada we ended up using a company called 'Fastlane Forwarding UK' and total expenditure for the bikes was £1033 shipping + £350 crating and transport from Newcastle to London. We're expecting something like $300 at the Canadian customs side for clearance out the port. We then found open return airline tickets for both of us at a cost of £1598 so basically £800 each (return). That's quite competitive against the flyride prices from Motorcycle Express because you have to take the flights they offer at twice the cost and bikes are $1700.
Hope this helps others...
