Temp import UK bike with aftermarket exhaust
Tried to search to find some information but haven't come across anything yet!
3 bikes going out to USA in July from the UK for a coast to coast, wondering if we will run into problems with our aftermarket exhausts (remus and akrapovic). Anyone have any experience with this? I remember reading somewhere that some states have banned all aftermarket exhausts? Thanks ! :mchappy: |
Provided they are quiet enough not to draw attention to you I see no reason why anyone should take an interest.
My attitude is to pas through places unobtrusively, and you don't need camouflage paint to achieve that. I like to have a wolf in sheeps clothing, being underestimated is seldom a disadvantage :) |
haha I guess the scary part for me is having the bikes arrive and them not being allowed in due to the exhausts!

Al they care about is the EPA approval, no one will check the bike for any parts (after market or otherwise) |
I shipped my bike into Alaska and the customs dude was in a building a mile from where I collected the bike. He actually signed and stamped the papers before the plane had landed!
I was never asked anything about the bike then or at any of the USA/Canada border crossings - 4 total. Generally I would say that no-one will notice but I understand your concern - certainly once you're on the road they won't care! |
Sorry you will have to speak up. were in America and can't hear a thing..there is a Harley Davidson riding past :mchappy:

hahah very good. But they don't come through customs, they only worry about a random stop by a police officer |
we first entered America last August at Tacome Port. The customs officer only checked the VIN number was correct and the Number plate had the correct numbers and letters on. We had a small yellow alloy plate with black numbers on our UK bike.
Then we entered Canada ,Alaska and back to America with no checks to our bike at all. Even when we re-entered America from Mexico the customs were only interested in us not the Bike. Hope this helps. Dazzer |

So do you get given replacement number plates there? I bumbed into a Canadian bike while he was travelling in the Czech Repubic, he had a piece of paper with a penciled on registration number on the back of his bike!! |

No you still have the UK plate on you bike. This may be of help to you, we used Progressive for our Bike insurance. They will insure your UK bike for the time you are in the United States. We paid $123 for a year, which we thought was a good deal. Car Insurance: Auto Insurance & Insurance Quotes - Progressive PS you don't get bothered in the US with UK a UK bike until you ride to Las Vegas and Orlando . Then any Brit's on holiday start waving at you and blasting their car horn. Quite Funny :thumbup1: Dazzer |

How did you get your quote, don't you need a US address? :) |

Yes you do need a Friend in the US that will let you use their address. Maybe on here but for sure over on ADVrider if you post for help someone will come forward and give you a address to use. Dazzer |
