Smoked/tinted visors

What is the overall US policy (I assume like everything else it will change from state to state :cool4: ) on smoked/tinted visors ?

I need a new visor before I come over in June, but can't decide on clear or tinted (at 45ukp each just 1 will do :-) ).

I prefer tinted as glare causes my eyes to shut .....

If I have a tinted one that meets European specs, will that be acceptable to most states ?

Tints are totally okay in the US, and Canada IIRC. Generally the eye protection laws are much less enforced. Don't wear a tint at night, though. I'm a shield whore- currently headed to South America with two spare shields (per person). Two dark, one clear.

i actually had a chat with a cop in florida on the topic of tinted visors.
he stated and i quote "as far as i know i was only told to stop cars for dark tinted windows, nobody ever told me to look out for bikes."then i realized why am i asking him this question?they don't care if you even wear a helmet (no helmet law in the state of florida)but to answer your question yes it's ok to have tinted visors in the u.s.

sometimes you have to have some form of eye protection. That can be goggles, visor, or even your bike's windshield. At least here on the left coast.

(hmm, "up there", since I'm not there right now)

Things are a bit more relaxed on this side of the pond .
You won't be hassled because you are wearing a dark or iridium visor , it's no big deal to a police officer that you might want to stop the sun from blinding you and I don't imagine that they will inspect your visor for EEC or BSI markings either ,mainly because they won't have a clue what that is all about .

If a person wants to wear a dark visor at night then that is their responsibility, there isn't a "law" to protect them from their own stupidity .

I really can't be bothered carrying 2 visors for 3 months, so I will let my wife do any night riding :-)

Strange comment, but I suppose it depends on the depth of tint, as a rule I hate riding at night but was surprised recently when taking a detour on the XJ900 (wife will only do dual and motorway on that one) down country lanes at night that I was able to see better with my tinted visor.

i used to use two visors a tinted and a clear but then i realized sunglasses are a great thing so now im down to one visor and a pair of sun glasses that i would have had with me any way.

Here you go, state by state rules for the motorcycling road.

For my part, I would not recommend a dark shield at night. Iridium night be okay, but especially away from the cities it can be very, very dark, and critters hang out on our roads all the time.

A strip of electrical tape across the top of your visor can help if you get stuck riding into the sun.

This is what I do. and its quite dangerous IMO.
