Ship bike from Halifax NS to Uk

I hear it is possible to ship a bike (by sea) from Halifax NS to the UK. Can anyone give me any iinformation about this? Who does the shipping? Who can do the crating etc? Thanks

There is a roro service so no crating needed and it runs to Southampton, here is the operator who you can contact directly.

Here is a web page at the Wallenius Wilhelmsen website that provides specific information about shipping private vehicles on their routes:

Guidelines and tips for shipping your private car, motor home, bike or yacht.

There is also a PDF available at the same website that contains all the information you are seeking:

Used Vehicle Shipping Guidelines

I'm sure the above suggestions are good. But as an alternative, consider using Eimskip to ship from Halifax to Reykjavik. Pick the bike up and tour Iceland for a while. (Be sure to get European Green card insurance first though). Then when you are done, catch the regular ferry service to Hirtshalls, Denmark. We did this in June 2022 but in reverse and it all went very smoothly. Eimskip cost $1120 USA and the ferry was about 800 Euro from memory. Thats 2 people and a cabin. Oh, Eimskip are very easy to deal with. Just ride your bike into a 20ft container and they tie the bike down. Leave your gear with the bike. Honestly it could't have been easier. It took about 17 days for us, drop off in Reykjavik to pick up in Halifax.

Any UK folk looking to go the opposite way ..,?? I had an interesting convo with a guy who was in talks with a German agency that told him Grimaldi Lines do a 5 day sail RORO from Liverpool to Halifax NS. He was looking to ship his Merc 4x4 campervan over there. Why is there never any concrete links that actually are true or simple in effecting...??!!

Because these are not passenger ferries.

Shipping a single used vehicle, nevermind a motorcycle (which not every dockworker could drive, and consider the liability if it's dropped!), is a very uncommon use case that disturbs what is otherwise a very standardized conveyor-belt operation for the shipping company. They don't like dealing with non-professionals, they don't like dealing with individual shipments (as opposed to a large block of cargo capacity), so they're not going to solicit that business, especially at a time when shipping capacity is in short supply to begin with.

Retail customers are pretty much the last thing they care about, so whenever you need to make a retail one-time shipment on a cargo vessel, YOU need to convince THEM. The best way to do this is via a freight agent that they already know and trust.

I'm going with a company named Canworld which is based in Ontario, It is the only company I could find who will organise shipping from Halifax to the UK. They are charging me $2,500 CD. The forwarding agent Wallenius Wilhelmsen recommends will only deal with new vehicles not 'personal effects'. Eimskip never returned my email. Ill report back on how it goes.

Roger:

Have you investigated shipping your moto by air using services offered by Motorcycle Express?

Some of the current rates that they offer are less than the $2,500 CAD you were quoted for sea freight ex Halifax, and flights are available from many different Canadian cities starting in Vancouver and moving east from there.

Unless you live in Halifax, it might be cheaper overall to ship by air from a city closer to your home.

I have used Motorcycle Express several times in the past (though not in the past 10 years) to ship my moto between Canada and Europe, and I was fully satisfied by their service every time.
