Shhhh TCAT (Trans Canada Adventure Trail)

In North America we are lucky to have some amazing long distance routes, the TAT, Continental Divide etc, but not may people have heard of the TCAT, its taken several years for a group of dedicated Canadians to put it together, it stretches the width of Canada, from the East coast to the Western side of Vancouver Island, nigh on 20,000kms of gravel tracks with a minimum of asphalt linking it all together.

More details can be found here:

Gravel Travel Canada - Home

Myself on 'Sammy', my trusty DR650 and my good friend Jim 'Mr Clean' Smith (on his KTM 990) just completed the BC mainland section of the TCAT the other week. Jim made a financial donation to Gravel Travel and we got the gpx tracks, which we uploaded to our GPS'.
We completed 3200kms/1988 miles of FSR (Forest Service Road) and logging roads in 10 days, with a real mix of wide open gravel sections (75 mph) and down to some optional technical single and double track 1st gear riding, we bush camped in some of Canada's finest scenery the whole way, ran into a few Bears - and a Cougar and had temperatures up to 37 Celsius in what has been a scorching Summer here so far.

Obviously we have only managed a comparatively small section of the TCAT so far, Canada is such a diverse and vast Country, I can highly recommend anyone to come here and ride some amazing trails, which we are fortunate enough to have in our back yard here. Sometimes Adventure starts close to home.....

Jim is hoping to publish an article about our trip in the future, I will give more details as they become available.

Loved to see this post. I am based in Quesnel B.C. and we have lots of local riding as you describe and backroad links to the trail you describe. I would encourage anyone who is going north to Alaska on a dual sport to take a look at backroad options between Lillooet and Prince George. There is truly some fabulous riding. Hope your trip goes well!
