Recommended diversions off of Hwy101/Hwy1
 

I am about to set off on a trip in North American and will start off travelling down highway 101 to SF diverting onto highway 1 at the first opportunity, can anyone recommend worthwhile diversions off of these roads. I am thinking of something within about 60 miles of the coast such as national parks, museums, particularly good roads or anything you think worth visiting.

It's all good, depends what your interests are and the weather. Got a fairly large detour where hwy 1 got whacked with a landslide.

As you come thru oregon you will be amazed by some of the scenic beautiful areas. McMinville oregon has this. The Spruce Goose | Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum | Wings & Waves Waterpark | McMinnville Oregon

hwy 36 from fortuna to red bluff is 140 miles of fun twisty road.

From where to SF?
The Oregon coast and northern. California are quite spectacular.
Definitely stop at the aircraft museum near Tillamook
