Prudhoe Bay to Ushuaia

Hi,
My girlfriend and I would like to travel Prudhoe Bay to Ushuaia.

We previously cycled China to Ireland. Well that was the plan anyway. We never got to Ireland as I was knocked off my bicycle and suffered severe head injuries in France(6 months in Hospital and 8 days in a Coma). As a result I have been advised it is highly unlikely and not advised to attempt any further long distance cycles. Hence my options IF we decide to do this is buy a 4*4 and drive - camping along the way.

Just looking for any advise people have. We were thinking of buying a vehicle in Canada/USA and selling it in Buenos Aires maybe.

Our preferred route is

Canada
USA
Mexico
Guatemala
Belize
Honduras
El Salvador
Nicaragua
Costa Rica
Panama
Colombia
Venezuela
Guyana
Suriname
Brazil
Paraguay
Buenos Aires
Can you advise on the following;

We plan roughly 2/3 years, can be longer if needed - what do you think? We do not want to just drove through places and want to do a little exploring. And some diving in Belize!

Is it possible to get Insurance to cover all Countries along the way?

Is it dangerous in some Countries?

What will our main obstacles be?

How much can we budget to ship our Vehicle to get past the Darien Gap. Panama to Colombia

Many thanks for your help.

This is just a planning/dreaming stage so a long way off just yet.

Mike

I'm a little surprised no one has responded yet, so let me give it a shot-

Is it possible to get Insurance to cover all Countries along the way?
No, you will have to get it for the various countries. IN Mexico and south, it's usually available at the border. Canada and the USA you will have to obtain it in advance. There are some companies that cover both countries, so it will be worth some research.

Is it dangerous in some Countries?
Common sense rules will save you from most trouble. Sadly, my own country (The USA) is perhaps the most dangerous.

What will our main obstacles be?
Languages vary, even within a country. I found places in Ecuador where no one spoke Spanish, and Brazil speaks Portuguese. Other issues would have to do with your choice of route and vehicle and times of year. While I was in Guatemala, the rainy season lasted weeks longer than usual and there wasn't a road open to the northern part of the country.

I have heard all kinda of numbers from people. The shipping database here might help. Also, sharing shipping space with another overlander headed in the same direction (you are going to meet a fair number of them) might help save some money. And maybe the RORO ferry will finally be a thing.
