That sounds like a nightmare with losing the documents:(. Did you get it all sorted? I'm currently in Seattle, with my bike, if there's anything I can do to help, just let me know.
Did you get your insurance arranged? I know it was very easy for USA and the insurance I arranged here covers me for the whole of Canada as well - maybe take a look at the USA companies like Progressive(there are a couple of threads about this)- I can give you a US address to use - though all the documentation gets emailed through anyway so it doesn't seem like you actually need to use a US address.

It's all cool, at least with canadian customs. The guy at the warehouse was a *!@! and we left a couple of heavy dollar bills there. But as far as rules and regulations go, we're pretty cool now. Nobody asked us for the insurance, but we'll try to get one as soon as possible.
The carnet de passage is not necessary actually, they just asked if we intended to sell the bike. "No." "Ok then". I just loved it!
But now, I need to:
- make a declaration of loss for the french automobile club to get the deposit back
- fix the clutch, which is very, very, very dead...

Temporary Import inot Canada
 

Hi,

Thanks for this information. I have been trying to find out what paperwork we needed to complete and was coming up a blank.

Do we need to complete this form prior to our arrival in Canada? (We are flying the bike in from the UK to Halifax). Or does this happen in Canada?

Is there any other paperwork that we need to complete for Canada?

With our IEC Visas currently processing, I'm turning my attention to the paperwork required for getting bikes into Canada.

As far as I'm aware we should be able to get into canada with our bikes as we will only have temporary one year visas. Is it just a case of filling in a temporary import form at the border and then finding Insurance?? The RAC have advised that a Carnet is not required for canada.

Is it easy to get insurance for approx 12 months on a foreign registered bike in Canada?

I can't find the information required on the canadain governemnt website, all it says is we won't need a certificate of confirmatory as they will only be tempoary imports.
