I can't insure a bike without a US drivers licence?
Hi all.
I'm a Brit in LA for a few months. I want to buy a bike, cruise around then ship her home (or put her in storage for a return trip later) I've found an apartment for my 3 month stay, found a bike that I want but all the 'major' insurance companies I've called won't insure me without a US drivers licence. I did a search for insurance on this forum and this specific query didn't show up.. so I'm asking for the googling benefit of those who might need this info later, once we sort it out. So, who will insure a 10 clean year licenced, British guy on a bike that I'll buy and register to a fixed address here in LA? Cheers all! |
Answered your other query. Probably you should be reading blogs or ride reports for that sort of information. Lots of people have done it (and blogged about it).
Hope that helps. Mark |

updated insurance information
can anyone provide updated insurance information for the US and Canada? We're two Germans coming to Vancouver with our bikes and touring the two countries for 2,5 months.
which company (either Canada or U.S. based) provides reasonably priced insurance? does progressive also cover canada (according to their website they don't)? advice greatly appreciated |
Progressive WILL NOT insure you unless you have a USA address but Motorcycle Express will for approx $100 per month, this is current info as I've had emails regarding the same enquiry 2 weeks ago.

Yes, I got a temporary insurance cover with MOTORCYCLE EXPRESS on both my US trips. Not cheap but look at what you are saving on the gas!
