Montana doesn't require insurance on a motorcycle and the license plate is permanent.

Do I need a Californian motorcycle license if I buy a bike privately in California and then register and insure it with my family's address? I'd rather save the hassle and use an International Driving Permit.

Will registering/insuring require a Californian driving license number at any point?

I'll be traveling through California briefly (2 weeks max) before embarking on travel through Central and South America.
