Good place to stay a night in San Diego?

Hi,

does anyone know of a good place to stay a night in San Diego with the bike?
Safe parking and a reasonable price would be preferred.

Thx,
Lucky

G'day Lucky,

I was last in San Diego in 2000 to follow the Baja desert race south. I found an awesome bar called "The gspot on grand". Just off the Hwy on the north side of town. Park the bikes out front walk in have a beer (foods great too) ask a local, dont be supprised if you get offered a room, we did. The locals are Awesome !

Cheers Dave

Hi Dave,

thx for the quick reply - uhm San Diego rather seems to be a big city - by any chance you mean the Grand Avenue Bar & Grill, 752 Grand Ave?
(Thats what I got - after I googled it).
Anyway I think I'll give this one a try if there is a chance to.

Cheers,
Lucky

G'day Lucky,

Spot on mate! Just rock up and ask the locals. I have a few places along the Baja too although most of the time we camped on the beaches, give me 5 minutes and I'll get back.

Cheers Dave

Hi Uli,

I use this site quite a lot, it has been awesome.

Host families Mexico, homestay Mexico - homestaybooking

However not many in Baja. I found the best places to be Rosarita, Todos Santos and Loreto to be the best, Cabo San Lucas is good for a couple of nights partying and found the worlds smallest bar Slims to be a a good start.

Sorry I couldnt be more help, I also use Expedia to find a hotel at good rates,

Cheers Dave

Possibly not your cup of tea but when I did my US tour in 2006, I tended to stay in Motel 6 motels which are budget hotels. When I arrived in San Diego (27 June) I found one in the city centre with a public car park alongside. It was within walking distance of the seafront (150yds) and the city centre which was small enough to walk around. Don't miss the Gaslamp Quarter (full of restaurants and bars), the Fat Bottom Microbrew Pub, the Patrick III blues bar in F Street, the Old Town State Park, an aircraft carrier the USS Midway, the Aerospace Museum and much, much more. After riding across the deserts of Arizona, the cool sea breeze off the Pacific at San Diego was very welcome.

Thx for the tipps - yesterday I stayed at a camping ground in san diego - which had been nice - but did fall asleep as soon as I had set up the tent.
Today I headed for Mexico - without much visitging San Diego - but could not find a US customs office which has open on the weekend. I even accidental enter Mecixo - and had to do a U-turn which did costs me hours because of the US Border Inspection - then the ABS system on my bike decided to do an autobrake - which had been fixed by a local bike shops hours later - and now I am back in San Diego ;) - had a burger and a beer - what a day - feels like alive. ;)

If I can't find any way to clear customs tomorrow maybe I give that motel 6 a try - cause where I stay right now - it is rather expensive.

Cheers,
Lucky

Just checked the rates for the motel 6 - they are even cheaper than the camping ground - seems to be a good idea to stay there.
