hello all , been on to local shipping company in liverpool uk.they are in process of obtaining fee for shipment of my bike back from new york to liverpool uk.they say this will not be a problem but the broker in new york says i will have to have a import agency in the states to act as a broker to import my bike.when i arrive i will have my return flight ticket and will be in usa for 8 weeks.any body have any experience of this will i have to have a broker to act as an importer with thans paul

sorry about that is a bit vauge isnt it,in a rush when i wrote it ,anyway will be riding my bike honda dominator with uk plates, on rtw trip to new york to run in new york marathon in november 2007 will be leaving uk in june 2007 crossing europe and russia down to magadan or vladivostock.freight company in uk say they can ship bike back for me from new york or baltimore.they contacted there agent in new york and they say i will have to have a import agent in seattle or anchorage depending on were i enter usa to import bike.i will have my return flight ticket with me and proof of shipment of bike back out of usa,do i need to have a import agent thanks paul

If you were smart, you'd sell just fly home.

I would echo that - Mollydog is right. The UK guys are just taking a cut. Go direct; aside from cost, the logistics chain is shorter than dealing with a UK company.

Temporary import of a European bike into the USA is as simple as pie. You don't need agents, or - Jeese - brokers. You just take your documents to the customs people at the place of import. Smile. Then they say "Welcome, glad to have you, here's a piece of paper that will let the bike stay six months". They are very polite the US americans. :)

That's my experience, and haven't heard different from anyone else.

There will be plenty of shipping agents on the east coast that will help you ship your bike back to Europe. Why not start getting quotes from *them* now, rather than the UK, two steps removed people.

My guess would be that you will find a decent deal - it's a common route. Perhaps in a shared container designed for personal effects for example. But that's just a guess - but even at, say, 1000USD, the cost is close to the value of the bike.

btw Count on a long wait if you are shipping your bike from Russia to USA. Think about something to do while waiting. Baha's nice ;)

thanks for your replies, anyway mollydog the plan is to ride through europe from uk. through holland ,germany,czech republic, poland through baltic states entering russia at estonia.ride across russia to magadan.fly bike over to anchorage with air magadan ride down through alaska, canada ,to seattle down west coast over to the east coast up to new york ship bike back to uk from new york.in total looking at 6 months to complete.found out air magadan cannot fly out of magadan due to planes been grounded through having no saftey certificates.can fly from vladivostock to seattle then ride up to new york from there but really wanted to through alaska and canada.rather not sell bike if i can bring it back cost me a fortune to kit it out.this trip has taken nearly 3 years of planning so far doing the new york marathon when i arrive tall order but possible wont stop till i do it.thanks for your advice anymore would be apprciated

Hi, have you explored the possibility of getting a boat from russia to alaska? I only ask, cause i would like to do this in a van, but i'm not sure how easy it is?:thumbup1: jo
