Yemen to morocco

Is it possible to travel from Yemem to Morocco in 6 months? I'm thinking, Yemen-Djiibouti-Eth- Sud-Chad-Niger-Burk. F.-Mali-Maur.-Mor. I don't have my own transportation and a budget of approx. $25/day. I'm really unsure about the middle part of this trip. I know nothing about Chad, and it does seem most people who do this do it in the other direction, with their own vehicles. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Possible although issues with access through Sudan to Chad due to trouble in western Sudan. Whilst some travellers seem to be getting through judging on other posts on this forum, there are security concerns and the Sudanese Government seems to be reluctant to have travellers in the area. For example, there was a brief report in the weekend newspapers of approximately 30 killed near El Fasher in a rebel attack, approximately 20 of those were rebels.

2nd point is Chadanian people in my experiance aren't particularly pleasant (as a generalisation) and this seems to be backed up by other travellers accounts. Its a fairly common occurance for travellers to get robbed and those travelling solo on public transport are particularly at risk. We got robbed twice and we did have our own vehicle so we could get further away. (incidently Sudanese people are the most hospitable that we met on the whole trans africa trip, very friendly). The Chadanian landscape is great, but helps if you are in your own transport so you can keep away from the settlements where possible.

As to direction of travellers - whilst there are more travellers heading south there are a reasonably number heading north. Two groups to focus on are the ones doing extended expeditions in Africa - such as Europe - SA - Europe rather than simply one way expeds. However far better group to look at would be South Africans and try going on to the South African forums. This forum is likely to attract far more Europeans and by virtue of them starting in Europe they are likely to drive down and ship back. In turn, SA forums tend to attract South Africans who are likely to drive north and then ship back.

There are trains that run from Khartoum to Nyala which might make an interesting alternative. Also heading South of lake Chad via Cameroon and Nigeria might be both and easier and more enjoyable experiance if you don't have your own transport.

Good luck
