where to get visa for Mali, Niger, Tchad, Soudan?

Hello,

can anyone telle me if it is possible to get a visa for Mali, Niger, Tchad and Soudan from embassies in Belgium?

If not, where do I get visa for these countries?

Do you need a carnet de passage for these countries??

Thanks,

Karel

Hello Karel,
Why do you want to get them in Belgium?
The Mali embassy in NKT is quick and cheaper than in Paris I know. The people at Auberge MENATA (the only place to stay in NKT) can point you there.
There's a Niger embassy in Bamako and a Chad embassy in Niamey (Don't stay in the camping in Niamey, it's a rubbish tip and you won't sleep because of the bar)
I haven't checked recently but at the beginning of this year the Chad-Sudan border was closed because of the Darfour refugee problem.
Good luck
Luke

for info, I got the Mali visa in Rabat a couple of days ago. 250 Dirhams and two photos. Despite me being there when it opened they made me come back the following day to pick it up.

I've had two Mali visas from the embassy in Brussels in the past year or so. The fee is, I think, 20000CFA, or about 30 Euros.

As Dougie says there's a Mali embassy in Rabat, I got my visa there in 10 minutes but that was nearly 4 years ago. Around the same time there was also a Niger embassy in Rabat - confusingly it was near the Nigerian embassy. Don't know if it's still there though.

Interested to know where the Niger embassy in Bamako is...

thanks guys for the info.

Do you know if you need a carnet de passage for the landrover in Mali, Niger, Tchad and Sudan?

A spoke a Sudanese guy a couple of weeks ago and he said that it was possible to cross the border between Tchad and Sudan. Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks,

Karel

we flew with our motorbikes from Ethiopia to Tchad because we couldn't get permits to cross Darfur. we asked again in Ndjamena and were told you can't go back the other way either.

look at www.hollandafricatour.nl and you will see crossing from Tchad to Sudan is possible if you cross in the extreme north. They did it in january last year, when the Darfur crisis was already there. Also a german geo-team took this route, but in the other direction. Beware: this area is very remote, almost no other traffic

Hi !!! (as usual I will try to point out how useless and pointless a Carnet is nowdays)

Obviously , Neither Morocco nor RIM demand a carnet (I eventually got in RIM without even a Carte Gris this December! ).

For MALI , definitely is not required at all.
For Niger , as far as I know (dozens of peoeple I know ), is not needed .

Chad , is not needed , and probbably won't know how to use it .

Sudan dont know at all. With all restrictions , permits , visa nightmares , wars, rebels , etc... I dont think they will be worriying too much about the carnet or lack of . I am told they got "special numberplates" on sale at the border (and supposedly you get your money back at the exit) , as in Lybia.

The only problem (carnet-wise) I can see is after Sudan . Eastern Africa countries apparently do demand a Carnet (kenya ,Tanzania , etc) .

I have not heard of a single Country (excluding Egypt) in which with a little of ingenuity and perseverance one can not get without a carnet.

Happy 2005!
