West to East crossing (border Chad - Sudan)
 

Hi,

Maybe I am asking the obviuos but is there any possibility to cross the Chad/Sudan border. I want to follow the "old" overland route to SA. Is there anybody who has done this recently. Maybe in convoy, military guided patrols or anything. If this is absolutely impossible, what is the alternative given the fact that i don't want to miss out on Mauritania and Mali?

this is a regular question. unless things have changed since Christmas - and I don't suppose they have - it would not only be insensitive, but unsafe, unwise and illegal to attempt it. with motorbike, you can fly Ndjamena - Addis Abeba. by car, you'd best go south and either chance your arm in CAR or Congo, DRC, Angola. again, these are common topics on the sub-saharan forum so take a look there first
