BTW XR650R ("The Big Red Pig") is a superb choice for the desert.
Great fun to ride in the most beautifull place on earth on the BRP.:funmeteryes:

If you want to know more about XR650R, please see this video:

Trossman's video from last month: Fadnoun - Afara - Tadrart.

Tam wilaya (province) is not open to overland tourists (except maybe a quick Tam - Assekrem and back). Maybe next year they say.

Just watched the video...looked really great. Was quite surprised that they took along a quadcopter. I wonder if that was declared or was an 'unoffical' bit of kit. But kudos to all those testing the possibilities again in Algeria. Wish I was able to go this year instead of next.

In Tunis Bartosz and his friends were questioned for couple hours for using walkie-talkie between cars. I recommend to keep a low profile.

Grrrrrr! :( I was irritated when I read that. I bought one of these - https://www.dji.com/phantom-3-standard - hoping to take it down there, but the tour co said not to and I hadn't flown a drone before, so for both those reasons bought this instead - https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00OCFMV...986871_TE_item - on the basis that if it got confiscated or crashed I wouldn't be losing very much.

I got through Algiers and Djanet airports OK (having heard from someone on the LHR-ALG leg of my flight that his brother had got 5 years in prison for taking a picture of an Algiers courthouse, then saw someone with a pair of OPERA GLASSES having to hand them in at Algiers airport doh), so then I spoke to the main tour guide, who said "don't fly it when we're near the army or police, but otherwise no problem". So I did, but unfortunately it didn't fly that high or last very long before it crashed one time too many. I didn't get much footage from it.

Once back in the UK and with a tiny bit of flying practice under my belt, I flew the Phantom for the first time and seeing the footage I could have got with THAT if I'd taken it to Djanet rubbed salt into the wound - https://youtu.be/kns6P0jJVhs

But then, the Phantom has more metal bits in it than the cheap plasticky one, so who's to say it would have got through the X-rays OK just because the other one did?

Hi Bartosz. Nice to see still traveling together with Tomek. I have to exchange my priorities, so no extreme travels this days. Probably I'll have to move to Australia from where some ride reports will follow.

I was there (Melbourne, Townsville, Brisbane) November last year. Huge part of business waits for me. If everything goes like expected, than for good.
