there is no ferry line

hee
I think it is hard to find a ferry to egypt. I tried to find a ferry line between italy/greece and egypt but I found no one. And I talked to other people on other forum and they say there was a line 15 years ago, but that line stopped. So you have to drive from sicilie to tunis and then libie to egypt. but that is a long way of course. good luck!!

bye bye

ps. Sorry for my bad english.

Hi,

There is no ferry service between Italy and Egypt unless you do not use a Ro_ro service sailing from Italy, if not Tunisia, Lybia, Egypt

Hope it helps

Cheers

I searched for a ferry to Egypt and had no luck. The closest I found was a ferry from Greece to Haifa in Israel....although that does mean your passport has a stamp that can cause problems. I ended just riding it. Through Greece, Turkey, Syria, Jordan (Kings Highway...WOW!) and then into Egypt. If you have the time to do it I would recommend travelling overland to Egypt, it really is fantastic.

No ferries Europe-Egypt

Hi, I'm sorry to tell you that there are no ferries between Europe and the Middle East (even the Haifa ferry was suspended at the beginning of the century). You can though find RO-RO ships running between Italy and Ashdod (IL) or Alexandria (EG). Also, as it has been suggested, the overland route through TR, SY and JO is a great one. I would suggest you to enjoy it.

Libya-Italy

I heard last night about a new, once-weekly service Libya-Italy - anyone know anything about this?

Sam.

When I was in Libya I ask owner from our travel agency - Hadi Bkai :-).
He said, that ferry between Italy and Libya is very unreliable.
He recommend me always use ferry to Tunesia.

The Ro Ro from Italy doesn't allow to land any vehicle in Alexandria port.

The only way is to go overland or ship bikes with container.

We just did one way overland and back by container/air

Grimaldi

Maybe you can try Grimaldi RoRo. They ship to Athens, Haifa, Izmir, Port Said and Alexandria.

I shipped my series3 back home and we did all the harbors. They follow the same route everytime. You can come along if you want to. Great Italian food; Bit pricy but then for us, the only solution.

Good Luck in Alexandria. Good fun in their harbour!

Into Egypt from Europe

There hasnt been a decent, regular ferry from Europe to Egypt for over a decade. There has been a lot of talk recently of setting one up (Egypt is supposedly more overlander-friendly these days due to GATT talks, but dont bet on it)

Its possible to get a car in across the Red Sea from Aqaba to Nuweiba but that ferry's unreliable too. (Not to mention unsafe)

Best option, as folk have said, is prob Tunisia-Libya-Egypt, and prepare for severe PITA factor (Pain In The A*se) at the Libya/Egypt border - four hour wait at least.

Europe-Egypt overland

Hey,

I am planning on doing an overland trip from Holland to Cairo taking the same route as you did. But how did you continue from Egypt on? Did you go back the same way, did you continue through Libya or did you manage to leave Egypt overseas? Are there actually possibilities to take your motorcycle or car out of Egypt overseas?

And how much time did you take get to Egypt? It really sounds like a GREAT trip but I really have no idea what to expect timewise...

Hope you can help me out on this one!

Berber

Following the idea suggested by Runner, do you have any rough idea how long the journey will be to cross Tunisia and lybia to reach Egypt ?
I don't have any idea how the roads are .....
May I say something like 2 days for Tunisia and 2 days for Lybia ?

cheers,

And somewhere else Luciano also gave us all the prices which I was meaning to go back and digest against overland costs.

We simply want to go to the Gilf, nothing in between. With L's info I am serously investigating the shipping from Italy option. He did not make it sound as bad as one would expect the words: 'egypt + port + vehicle import' to be.

What's the worse that can happen? You save a week on the road. Have a nice time in Italy or Egypt waiting for the clearance. It's worth calculating at least.

then again, Sam's news is promising too, but from Egypt, made need special filtering.
