Vechile Rego

Have just acquired a Nissan Patrol in Germany & have had it registered only for the time we are in Europe, some sort of tourist rego. German plates & all the owership papers etc, more than enough!( i hve never seen so many official looking papers.

When we go into Morocco, Maur & Senegal will this cause a problem or do you pay & they just give you insurance & a tempory enter permit. I assume that rego in Germany or England etc really means nothing in the countires mentioned.

Welcome any advice.

Regards

DAVID

On the contrary the papers you have are the only recognised documents that you have. In West Africa most border guards know and recognise them because of the numbers of Gewrman tourists and car dealers on the road. I take it as a non resident you have the "Ausfuhrkennzeichen" or "Zollkennzeichen", its the one with the red rectangle at the end of the plate giving the date of expiration in Germany. The small green booklet with your name and details of the car in the back is the document that most want to see. In this is also the insurance papers which are valid for Europe, Morocco and Tunisia. You should also keep the "Fahrzeugschein" which is the long document with the corner cut off. You will probably need this if you intend to sell the car or reregister it in another country.

The vehicle papers are the basis on which the temporary entry permit will be issued, if you dont have the original papers they will presume that the car is stolen and then you can try to talk your way out of that.

just a little mistake

sorry just found this little mistake. Fahrzeugschein is the little green booklet that goes with the car or bike. the big one is the Fahrzeugbrief like the log book if you have got that you are the owner of the car/bike no matter if your name is in it.
