Hi Atlas,

Sisa Shipping Lines still indicates their Iskenderun - Haifa line but when you try to make a reservation it does not show any schedules.

You will have to enquire at one of their offices:

https://www.sisadenizcilik.com/tr/Contact.aspx

I would not know that procedures to obtain an Ethiopian visa in Khartoum have changed since last autumn when it was possible to get one within 24 hours.

Greetings,
Achim

I have emailed Sisa and they have stopped the ferry to israel and say there is none from Turkey.

VanGS 13 Jul 2013 18:49

HI Atlas,

SA citizens don't need for Isreal and Jordan on arrival at the Border.

Hope this helps. Will update you next week when I am in in.

I'd second the suggestion to avoid the Nile West bank road. The speed bumps will drive you crazy. There is however a perfect tarmac motorway from Asyut all the way to Aswan (not marked on Michelin maps).

Friends are going for Ethiopian visas tomorrow in khartoum. They are on the hubb ill ask them to update if they can.

Good luck to anyone getting in or out

tadhg123 13 Jul 2013 20:09

Sorry should have said the motorway is from Asyut airport.

No problem at checkpoints. We cleared the airport one at 10pm. Diesel in drums but the first few we stopped at were out.

Yes we got our Ethiopian visas yesterday $20 each. We arrived at 7 as we heard it can get busy, dosent actually open until 8.30. The green shed opens earlier and has the forms for a pound each and does photos & photocopies. Guard said it was a quiet day and there were only about 20 others. Collected at 2 pm. Kenya visa today as planning to exit via turkana route.
Also there is a little cafe in the grounds where we got breakfast. Order stuff of the left hand side of the menu for a mix of ethipoian nosh served on bread. Nice and the etiopian coffee is good here to.
Handy as being ramadan theres not so many places open.

We have just received confirmation from Sisa ferries the service between Iskendrun and Port Said is suspended.

We are in Khartoum now and looking for ways to get to Europe, any suggestions?

Cheers
Glenn

Hi Guys,

I arrived today on the Salamis line from Lavrio to Haifa, Isreal. It was a 3 day crossing.

-Office for Salamis is in Pireus. Speak to Eleni.
-Agent in Isreal is in Haifa across the road from the port. Rosenfeld Shipping.

Leaves Monday from Lavrio and Thursday from Haifa.

Cost for bike is 660euro... Boat gets quite full so if you have a 4X4 best to make sure they have space, but they can sqeeze you on for sure.

Here is the tricky bit. Its a cargo boat. Only room for 12 passengers and truck drivers get preference. Cost to go onboard is 260 euro, but I was told to pay in cash to the receptionist when she visits the boat. I suspect it might be a scam from her side as nobody onboard knew of this arrangement. I didn't pay and it didn't state anywhere on the invoice from Salamis.

So they don't really want tourists on the boat eventhough the crew is fantastic. I waited 8 hours at the port to see if they had a spot for me.

Flights from Athens to Tel a Viv about 150 euro if you need to fly.

Food is provided but no drinks or beer and you cant buy anything onboard. Cabins are very nice!

Took about 6 hours to get the bike out of customs. Long but atleast organised.

Hope this helps.
I hope this helps!
