There may be another rebellion in the making, sparked by the return of tuareg warriors from Libya.

A meeting in Tacalotte, 35 kms south of Kidal, on October 16 between Imghad, Chamanasse and Ifoghas tuaregs was a preamble to a meeting on Oct 18 with the Malian authorities. But for this meeting only the Imghad were present. "Their commander, Colonel Mohamed Ag Bashir (pictured below) explains: "We are available to our country in peace. Among us there are people who have spent thirty years in the Libyan army and we know of no other occupation than that of arms.""

Inner strife amongst the tuaregs is what raises concerns. The Ifoghas and Chamanasse refuse to serve under Imghad command, for historical reasons.

Situation in northern Mali 'explosive' according to Algerian newspapers. Manifestations today in Kidal, Gao, Timbuktu. Arabs joining in with tuaregs. "... the division of Bani Walid, led by Colonel Ag Makadaye like to warn that the military means at its disposal could far exceed those of the Malian army."
