i have just arrived in southern africa after crossing the congos and angola with my bike.

planing for the return i have a question regarding the crossing of sudan. coming from the east coast, where can you get a sudan visa?

there had been ruours, that the crossing of sudan with your own transport is no longer possible... is that just a rumour?

Hey Steven, good going, I have been watching your progress on your website. I have no real current info, but there are various options. Get a business visa in Pretoria, RSA, which I enquired about earlier this year, no probs really, as all you need is a return ticket. You can get that by buying one and cancelling it after you have the visa, you incur the cancellation fee that way, but it should work, as I doubt it would state the port of entry. Otherwise, from what I can gather from various sites and sources ius that Sudan is definitely not closed. I think overland you would enter it from Ethiopia and should be able to get the visa there. There may be some waiting time involved, at worst. I have also read that a letter of recommendation from your embassy really helps. Lastly, read through this site, a little bit further down is more info, someone talks about a contact in Khartoum called Midhat who can facilitate things that end. I have contacted him via e=mail but have not had any response yet. I hope you come right.

Coming from the East coast you can get a visa very easily in Addis Ababa. Takes about 24 hours. You have to have a letter of introduction from your embassy (don't seem to need this at other Sudan embassies but the one in Addis seems to like it). You can travel around freely. They don't like you going to the south but other than that they have removed a lot of the restrictions in the last 12 months to make it easy for tourists - for example you don't have to register with internal security every where you go. Nor do you have to register in Khartoum as the stamp in the passport says you don't. If you have just done the Congos and Angola you should find it easy.
