Some good news from Egypt

We passed into Egypt a few days ago through Sollum.

The good news is that there was not much hassle getting through. The whole thing took us only 2.5 hours. There was 7 EP per person and 6EP per car at the border, with official ticket. After that not a single penny was paid, nor asked for, apart from documented vehicle costs to cross.

Everything was very freindly, they even gave us lunch! We were 'issued' with our very own policeman who took us from point to point as we navigated our way around each department. The whole thing was very inefficient but there was never a time when we weren't doing something.

We were dreading the crossing after listening to other stories but it was all OK. Maybe a sign of things to come?

Good News Jasper.

I've looked on a few maps and can only find 'Salum' near Libyan border. Is this where you came through?

If so, I might revise plans and travel through Libya instead of Aqaba etc. Any updates / advice on ferries from Europe suitable for this route would be good.

Best regards,

Pete.

We did come through Libya, our route is displayed on the fugroseastar page.

The border crossing was at the land port there. The route taken previously was Europe to Genoa, ferry to Tunis and down through Tunisia.

Libyan visas can be difficult to obtain but we have now taken 2 as we had problems with the first and so aren't really difficult just expensive.

Expect $100 each person for invite, GBP 100 each person for visa process in UK and $200 at border for paperwork, this is definately worthwhile as all is in Arabic.

I know you are travelling with 3 kids, Pete, so I would haggle for a discount with both invite and visa in London.

Any other info contact me direct
