Sete (France) - Tanger ferry update

I read a few previous posts asking about the ferry from Sete to Tanger. I am in Sete now and plan to take the ferry to Tanger in the next few days.

The latest info I have is that it runs all year, the ticket office opens at 4pm and the boat leaves at 7pm. This is every few days.

Sete itself is an alright kind of place. Hotels for every budget, campsites and motorbike shops.

And it's nice and sunny here at the moment. I'll post the prices and days before I leave.

Cheers,
Doug

hi, nice info,

is it possible to give some more information about that ferry?
Can you give prices?
Is it possible to buy a ticket there?

tnx,

I sat around for a couple of hours waiting for the mass of people to thin out, so I could get to the desk and ask those questions but I got bored and went for a coffee instead. I got some extra info from some people who had tickets though:

The ticket office opens at 4pm, and is inside the port itself. You join the masses (with passport) and buy it here. There is also a phone number for bookings. I will get the number and operator name tomorrow.

A cyclist told me it's 40 euro's per person, plus a charge for your vehicle. He reckoned a motorbike would be about 60 euro's.

The ferry takes 36 hours to Tanger.

Hopefully tomorrow (Monday) will be quieter so I can speak to an official and get a timetable and the price.

cheers...

A net search turned up the following info:

Comanav run ferries from France to Maroc. They have neither a functioning web site, nor an office in France (!), but you can get info on schedules and prices (in French) here: http://www.euromer.net/pages/mat.php

They run Sète - Tanger & Nador, as well as Port Vendres (near Perpignan) - Tanger.

Google also turned up quite a few links to SNCM, but their site doesn't list Maroc as a destination, so my guess is they have given up that route.

yeah, I checked the web before I left but couldn't really get anything useful.

Just been to the port and although there was no-one selling tickets I did see some paperwork for the route/schedule:

Route: Sete-Tanger
Port: Sete, La Gare Maratime Orsetti
Operator: Comarit
Frequency: every 4 days, all year
Cost: cheapest adult 38 euro, up to 140 euro
vehicle: 193 euro for a car, 223 euro for van, 90 euro for a bike over 125cc
duration: 36 hours

There is a second operator called Comanav which appears to run the same service two days out of sync with the above. The boat was docking when I was there and people where already queuing, a guy said it leaves tomorrow.

Hope this helps, it's a bit confusing though. Essentially, there is an all year round service (seemingly every two days, but definitely every four).
