It's amazing how some mischiefs linger on forever. The cover of the Lhote book in your list shows the little 'egyptian godesses', the single group of Tassili paintings that caused the biggest stir at the time of their discovery.

Unfortunately these paintings (and a few others) were the handwork of one of the playful artists of the Lhote mission, a fact that was exposed in the mid sixties, yet the reprints of Lhote's book (including my 1975 hungarian edition) still carry the picture and the account of their discovery.

One of the sadder aspects of the Lhote mission was their 'discovery' of the wet sponge method to make the paintings brighter for copying. As a result, many of the most important authentic paintings of the Tassili have now faded beyond recognition.
