Problem with Mauritania visa, any ideas?

I've just made my way down towards the border. I am approximately 300km from dakhla and 100 to the border. I was planning to get my visa on the border however somehow I have lost all of my passport photos. I have one left. The closest town to get the photo is 300km back in Dakhla. I might be able to get a photocopy of the single photo that I do have. Do I chance it and go to the border with one photo, or do I go all the way back to dakhla for a single photo?

In the unlikely even this happens to someone else, here is what happened.

I decided to go for the border anyway and try my luck with one passport photo. When I got the visa at the Mauritanian border, they didn't ask for anything. No copy of passport, no passport photos, nothing. They do it all right there for you, you only need your passport.

Thanks for the information, that's grand to hear that you can obtain the visa at the border. I've been trying to contact the Mauritania Embassy in Pretoria to see if we need the visa before we reach the border and I'm not having any luck. I'm CDN and partner is ZA.

Next March we fly to Senegal to pick up Landy which will be shipped to Dakar then head north to Morocco and Europe.

It's a shame that the African countries make it so difficult to obtain tourist visas. Any other country would welcome tourism...providing the locals and government with much needed foreign currency.

Mauritania visas are easy for all

I recently bought a visa on arrival in Mauritania, arriving from Dakhla. The price was 120 euros for non Africans, and 90 euros for Africans. If it is the first time you are getting a visa, then you need to get a photo taken by the computer and your passport scanned into the computer. If you have previously had a visa, then they only need you to pay.

I wrote about my experience here, it is not the most efficient of systems,
