Planning road trip from Libya to Belfast
 

Hello all
I've been off this site for a while as have been flat out with work. Now find myself back in Africa and based in Libya :palm:. I've bought myself a 2004 Harley Davidson Electra Glide (currently going through the pain of local registration) and intend riding back to the UK next year. Routes currently available appear to be by Ferry from Misrata to Turkey or Ferry from Tunis to Italy and then head across Europe. Has anyone else used either of these routes? The other issue I am having to consider is that the bike will on a Libyan registration so sorting insurance for the trip may be challenging. Any advice gratefully received. ?c?

Hello mate,

I did Tunis to Genoa in December last year with a motorbike. All good and pretty straightforward - I just booked with CTN via Aferry, as I do for all my ferry bookings. Was even impressed with the wifi on the boat as being not exactly lightspeed but equally not glacial as usually is.

I’m trying to sort out insurance on a Libyan plate , can get it in Turkey no bother with a green card for Europe. Thanks I’ll have to look at Italy also.

Hello mate, I am currently based in Libya and making a trip across the country, after that I am planning my trip to Turkey and from there I will take it across Europe bythe Ferry from Misrata, a couple of my friends have done it via Tunis and I think its easier to go from Tunis than from Muisrata.
If you are still in Libya let me know we might go for a trip!

Cheers mate. I’m in Tripoli but struggling to get the bike registered at the moment. Sod’s law, the week I bought it they changed the law so that an expat cannot own or legally ride a motorbike here. At the moment the bike is sitting behind my house. Without being able to get it registered I might have to consider simply shipping my it back to the UK.

Hey mate, If you need help with the registration I know a guy who can help you I have spoken with him regarding the issue he told me no worries he can help you out register the bike.

Finally managed to get the bike registered with full title in my name. Have a special foreigners number plate so nice easy target [emoji2957]. I need to replace the rectifier and stator and fit a new battery and she should be up and running again. One step closer to the trip. Looks like easiest route is ride to Timis and ferry across to
Italy as no-one knows when the ferry is going from Misrata to Turkey.
