Planning going to Mali or Niger... Any Recommendation?

Hi there Guys.. Sorry to boither.. just planning an Africa Trip.. and just want to know about your experience.

the thing is that I might go to Mali, Bamako to be more precise and explore other parts of the country from there. Is is possible to go to Agadez from there? Any danger? I mean.. Is it a long long long trip ?? Had anyone done it?

But the other thing to know if its better to go directly to Niger. It seems very veyr different countries.. Mali more crowded and more ¨touristic¨ in a way...

I am a Photographer / Musician and plannign to get some images from the trip.. kinda documentary just me and my wife.. so.. I am looking a good and safe place to take the camera and stuff.

Have done this kind of Trip in India.. and was very very nice. Wonderfull experience : :: : :

Also.. just noticing that there are no ATM on Mali? Is taht Right? Anyone know how to get the money when you´re there? DO the hotels accept Credit card and staff like that? Any problems?

And (The final question at last!) How much money do you think it cost Mali or Niger per day for One adult. No fancy hotel, budget, just transport, some food and the payments to guides and stuff like that..

Sorry to be a total pain!

thanks for the responses!

Went to Agadez in February, and another list member drove there last month.
So perfectly doable. But a long drive. Mauretania, south Mali, Burkina and Niger up to Agadez is fine for travel.
How are you getting about? Public transport?
If so, hard to spend much money.
ATMs are found in major cities. Only VISA.

thanks man for the response...
also, don't know what you mean for " hard to spend money" I mean.. is it cheap??? or is it terribly expensive? How much dollars have you spend a day?? just to have doe idea in mind...

Hope you're ok!

Apart from fuel and visas, you can get by on barely nothing.

Hotel rooms usually 10-30 euros. But many places you can put up your tent on the roof or in the garden.
Bush camping is free. :)

Main road to Agadez no problems, with bus or own vehicle.
After Agadez, military escort or no go. And $$$

Thanks Guys!
The main thing is that I am from Argentina... and there is a HUGE difference in flight price getting form here to Bamako or for example MArrakesh.. for example..

Just thinking about going from Argentina to Marrakesh, stayiing there some days ... get a plane to Bamako..

Has Bamako an Airport? Don´t know how much are the planes??

Many thanks to the infromation about the prize of the hotels! 10 to 30 dollars is good information!

Bamako has an airport. I guess you will have to fly to a proper airport hubb such as Heathrow London, Spain or Amsterdam Holland then to Bamako?? I can't imagine a direct flight from your place to Marrakech.

Marrakech is quite a big tourist place and i can't imagine it will hold much interest for you.. Having said that, i always enjoy it there.

Haha...Of course. The last time i flew was when Gadarfi was in charge. Bamako to Tripoli then Tripoli to London. I guess the airline which was owned by his son is not around anymore!!!

There are flights from Dakar to Bamako which might be a bit easier to get to than Marrakech.

There used to be a train from Dakar to Bamako which, when I took it a couple of times years ago, was an "interesting" couple of days. :eek3: Pic below. Great food btw.

The route stopped running a couple of years ago but local trains still run over parts of the line. Depending on how quickly you need to get to Mali you could probably still do it in bits, using "buses" to bridge the gap.

Trains and buses are a great way to meet people if that's what you're going for.
