Going to be driving down this way in October with 2 Land Rovers, each with trailer.

It's purely a question of getting there by the easiest way.

So, is it better going across to Atar and then tarmac, or going down the Atlantic route, piste all the way. Working on basis that the train times won't fit, so have to drive either option!

If you expect to drive either option then it can only be the inland truck route down the Atlantic - bring Loctite!

Yeah, Definitely go down the Atlantic Route, drove Nouadhibou - Choum (500KM) last Christmas Eve, in a 90 300Tdi the road construction to the East along side the railway has pretty much destroyed any decent piste making the going slow looking for a way through - it was better to make our own route a couple of Kms south of the railway, and there were some fairly soft areas, which was not a problem for us, but would give you trouble with trailers. The Atlantic Route sealed road/truck piste will be even better by october.
How come your taking trailers, and which type are you using ???

This month I've followed the beach piste ( from Nouakchott ) + banc d'Argain : less than 2 days ( without guide , including visit of the the Natural reserve ) .
For the Banc d'Arguin's track , I've followed the map (with waypoints) given at the enter of the park in Nouamghar : easy to follow .
And it was the first time for me in Mauritania .
So I think it's the best option for this trip until the road will be operationnal .

Atlantic route it is then! Probably run along the train line for the return, just to make a change.
