Nouadhibou-Atar - tarmac?
 

Hello,

is it true that the track from nouadhibou to atar is paved? I've spoken with one guy who was there in january '04 and he told me that there's new tarmac from nouadhibou through Atar to Zouerat. I don't know what to think about this 'cause I've never heard about this on this forum.

'nouadhibou through Atar to Zouerat' does not make sense.

He probably meant Nouakchott through Atar to Zouerat. (but only sealed to Atar and a bit) or NDB-NKT (in progress).

NDB to Zouerat is all railway and sometimes piste.

I've been suprised same as you, when he told about that "new road". As I know, the road fron NDB to the capital leads through Bou Lanouar and maybe he thought that it go further east.

For me it's a good new, that there's no tarmac, cause I'm plan to do a round off-road trip.

Our itinerary:
NDB-Choum-Atar, then few days for exploring Adrar, then south to Tidjikja, next from Tdk through Passe de Nega to Kiffa. After that we plan to go as south as Senegal river and follow the river to rosso.
Finally from Rosso to Nouakchott and north to NDB.

I hope that only tarmac section will be between Rosso and the capital.

What about the road from Nouakchot to NDB? Is it possible that it will be finished at July? Maybe after all that summer trip I'll be so washed-out that I'll dicide to go north by a tarmac. Is it easy to find that road starting from Nouakchott?
